What is HardieBoard Siding?
Hardie Board siding is a manufactured exterior siding product made up of concrete materials bound together and strengthened with cellulose fibers (plant material).
HardieBoard is the common name for fiber cement siding, because James Hardie introduced the product, and it is the most popular brand of home siding in the US today.
It is available in planks (HardiePlank), shingles (HardieShingle), or vertical panels (HardiePanel). HardieBoard siding comes in a variety of faux wood grain or stone textures and can be factory painted for a longer-lasting, UV-resistant color.
Because fiber cement siding is much thicker and heavier than other types of exterior siding products, installing it is a more labor intensive and specialized process that should be handled by a professional installer.
James Hardie offers a 50-year warranty on its products, but HardieBoard fiber cement siding can last upwards of 100 years if properly cared for and maintained.
