Five beautiful ways to spruce up your home’s entrance for fall

October 5, 2019

The weather has dropped a few degrees, leaves are falling, the trees are changing - yep, you got it. Fall season is here. There are something about this season’s colors that radiate warmth and coziness, and no better way to invite people in your home by sprucing up your entrance!

There are key elements in creating an inviting home entrance but here are five more specific ways to take advantage of this season’s gorgeous foliage and temperature!

1. Highlight your front door.
The front door usually stays the focal point of a house’s exterior, no matter what time of the year. During fall, a simple wreath of fall leaves and flowers can add an inviting touch. Even a fresh coat of paint can make your entrance stand out. While we are at it, why not try to paint your door red?

2. Add outdoor lighting.
Days also get shorter during fall, so it doesn’t only make sense to use outdoor lighting from a visual standpoint. You need to provide a safe path to your front door. Use decorative lights to illuminate pathways to your house. You can also use flood lights or lanterns to brighten up your porch.

3. Take advantage of what the season can provide - gorgeous fall leaves and pumpkins!
Seasonal decorative accents such as pumpkins can transform your porch into a seasonally strong fall hangout. Quick tip: Design your front entrance that can transition effortlessly from harvest season to Halloween.

4. Don’t forget about your lawn.
While fall foliage can be an advantage for some because it can make a home look more attractive, that doesn't mean you are given permission to go lax on lawn maintenance during this season. Keep falling leaves at bay with frequent raking and patch up any brown spots in the grass.

5. Pretty up the porch.
The porch is the first welcome sign of your house. So pretty it up! You don’t even have to shell out serious money, as you already own most of the materials.

Here are some ideas:

  • If you have a wooden ladder: Display a cozy blanket on each rung.

  • If you have a grapevine wreath: Dress it (or a pair) up by nesting nuts and apples in the lower half, then hang with 3-inch-wide burlap ribbon.

  • If you have a bushel basket: Repurpose it as a rustic planter, or use it to corral outdoor items.
