In our previous post, we have featured the JamesHardie HardiePanel vertical siding boards that are famous for the board and batten look of the farmhouse trend these days and discussed its advantages.
What is a Board and Batten?
Board and batten siding is a type of exterior siding that has alternating wide boards and narrow wooden strips (battens).
Some of its technical features:
Usually (but not always) 1 foot wide.
May be placed horizontally or vertically.
Usually (but not always) about 1/2 inch wide.
Traditionally, it was designed in order to solve a problem - rain and cool air. The wooden battens are placed over wide boards to create a stronger siding and to cover the cracks between the boards and seal the interior of the home from the exterior weather. It was inexpensive and easy to assemble so it was usually used for structures such as barns and garden sheds.
Even today, board and batten siding on a house exudes a comfortable informality. Its popularity rose with the farmhouse and modern cottage trend.
We are taking the spotlights towards the board and batten look and feature some delightful houses we have seen.
In the gallery you will see how different colors and types of board and batten siding is used together with other types of siding materials to achieve a look or feel of the house.
