Whether you like classic string light decorations or the jaw dropping holiday light and music display on your home, the type of siding on your home can really help your decorations stand out! Hanging holiday lights can add festive charm to your home, and you can do it without causing damage by following these tips:
Use Clips or Hooks: Instead of using nails or screws, opt for plastic or metal clips or hooks designed for hanging lights. These can be attached to gutters, shingles, or eaves without causing damage.
Adhesive Hooks: Command hooks or other adhesive hooks are an excellent option for hanging lights on surfaces like window frames or door frames. They are easy to remove without leaving marks or damaging the paint. We recommend you heat up the adhesive strip with a blow dryer to loosen the glue to have the cleanest removal possible.
Gutter Clips: Gutter clips are designed to attach to the edge of your gutters, providing a secure and damage-free way to hang lights along the roofline.
Zip Ties: You can use zip ties or twist ties to secure lights to railings, columns, or other features without causing damage.
Avoid Staples and Nails: Do not use staples or nails, as they can cause permanent damage to your siding, trim, and/or shingles.
Check Manufacturer Instructions: If you’re using specific types of lights, check the manufacturer’s instructions for recommended hanging methods. Some lights come with clips or attachments designed for safe hanging.
Find alternative areas to decorate: Instead of attaching lights to your siding you can always decorate trees or bushes. Consider wrapping them loosely to avoid damage to the branches.
Protect Outdoor Outlets: If you’re using outdoor outlets, make sure they are protected from the elements. Consider using weatherproof outlet covers to prevent damage.
Measure and Plan: Before you start hanging lights, measure the areas where you want to install them. Planning ahead can help you avoid unnecessary adjustments that may cause damage.
Be Gentle During Removal: When it’s time to take down the lights, do so carefully. Gently remove clips or hooks and avoid pulling on the lights to prevent any accidental damage to your home or to your lights.
By taking these precautions and using the right tools and accessories, you can enjoy beautifully decorated holiday lights without causing any harm to your home.
