Plan Smarter in 2017 by Making Your Budget Match Your Dream House

It's the new year and you're starting to think about a new home exterior. Before you start this exciting project, it's important to have a strategy for setting a budget and sticking to it. Here's an easy, three-step process to set you up for greatness and a beautiful home.

Step 1: Have a vision.

It is so important to know what you want before any work starts. Making changes mid-project can often be rash and expensive. You don't want to spend more on a new siding color you won't love in six months!

If you're having inspiration trouble for your new home exterior, start collecting pictures of homes you love. They can be pictures from the internet or a drive around your city, but put them all together before you meet with a designer. Keep your eye out for patterns between the houses. What do you love about each one? Is it the color, the style or the shutters? These details are what you want to have in your mind before you sign a contract.

Step 2: Know your budget.

There are two phases to any workable budget: your starting number and what you're willing to spend. The initial number is what you want to focus on when you're comparing different contractor bids. Don't forget to ask for itemized bids so you can accurately compare apples to apples from each contract! This is the best way to truly know what you might be paying for and to avoid any potential surprise charges mid-project.

Step 3: Redesign to fit your budget.

Once you have all your bids, compare them to your original design. Are there any design features that will cost more than you're willing to pay? Is there any area where you can save so you can splurge elsewhere? Your designer or architect can help you with any revisions to make your dream home practical. At Peninsula Siding Company, we have designers who can work with you and the contractor in this redesign phase.

Planning for new siding is a big endeavor, but you don't have to go through it alone! Call Peninsula Siding Company today and we'll work with you, every step of the way.
