Labor Day has finally arrived. Yes, the summer is wrapping up; so celebrate the season and your day off with a relaxing barbecue with friends and family. This is a great weekend to soak up “all things summer” one last time. Make your party planning easy with these simple decorating ideas.

Table Themes

Because Labor Day is a national holiday to celebrate all the work we do, feel free to plan a patriotic themed party and use up leftover supplies from the 4th of July.

If you’re looking to mix it up from the last BBQ you held, plan a summer themed party that emphasizes the things you love most about summer. Decorate with flowers and bright designs. For your table set-up use a striped or checkered table cloth and colorful place settings. Put out sunflowers in a vase or wildflowers in a watering can as a centerpiece. Set fruit and vegetable baskets out featuring produce from your garden or the local farmers market. Mix up a big pitcher of lemonade and cut up fresh strawberries to put in it. This will be a welcome sight to everyone who comes to the table.

Lawn Prep

To prepare your yard for your labor-free weekend, take the lawnmower out for a spin around the yard the weekend prior. That way all you have to worry about on the weekend of is putting out the necessary games, chairs and decorations. The only real work necessary is a nicely groomed lawn, so once that’s checked off the list you’re ready for set up.

Games

Pull out your favorite lawn games like croquet, bocce ball, horseshoes or badminton. Make sure to set these up in the smoothest part of your lawn unless you want to give your guests a special challenge through the rough patches.

Seating

Remember though, that this party should be a relaxing time for everyone, so make sure to provide plenty of comfortable seating including lawn chairs with cushions or even a hammock! Set out little end tables or stools to provide places for your guests to set their drinks down while enjoying their view of the kids running through the sprinkler or the game of badminton that's beginning to get competitive.

Night Lights

To add a little pizzazz for the evening atmosphere, string lights up around the porch to complement your exterior siding or set up tiki torches along the perimeter of the yard to add a cozy ambiance. If you have a fire pit, pull out s'mores fixings and get a fire blazing. Nothing says summertime more than roasting marshmallows around a campfire.

Remember, the best party is one where the hosts are having just as much fun as their guests. So don't stress yourself out by trying to go over the top. This is your day off too. These simple summer-themed decorations will be all you need to set the mood and have an enjoyable barbecue. Nothing boosts your curb appeal more than a lively party happening in the back yard.
