When you decorate for Halloween, do you take the same box you've been using for years down from the attic? How old is that box of decorations? Spice things up this year with easy exterior Halloween decorations that will set you apart from the rest of your neighbors — in a good way!

Harvest Festival

Do you prefer to stay away from the scarier aspects of the holiday? Embrace the harvest tradition instead! Place hay bales and lots of unpainted gourds on the walkway leading up to your house. It will be a seasonally-appropriate greeting that won't terrify the littlest trick-or-treaters!

Keep DIY Simple

If you've always wanted to try your hand at a DIY Pinterest project but are a little hesitant to start, now is the perfect time! Wreaths are shockingly easy to put together, even for the less artistic of us. It will also make your front door festive and unique. Finish it off with a few pumpkins on either side of the entryway and you're all set!

Ditch the Orange and Black

Even though it's Halloween, there are no hard-and-fast rules saying you have to stick to orange and black color schemes. In fact, it can be more fun to deviate from the traditional color palette! If you still want to stay with autumn colors, red and yellow will blend in nicely. Or, you can bring out the paint and let your kids go crazy on the pumpkin decorating this year.

Make Good Use of the Pumpkins

Pumpkins, they're not just for jack-o-lanterns and lattes anymore. Put everyone's favorite gourd to work. Scoop it out to use as planters on your walkway or place miniature ones with ivy in exterior window boxes.

Everyone knows how to make a scary Haunted House for Halloween. And there are plenty of ideas for jack-o-lanterns on Pinterest and this very blog. Don't let family-friendly goals make your house boring on October 31!

What's really scary is damaged siding. Call Peninsula Siding Company for a complete inspection of your exterior house siding.
